Coping and Managaing the Challenges of COVID-19
6th April 2020
Over the last 2 weeks I have kept in regular contact with the following clients and have heard in more detail than normal how they are coping and what challenges lie ahead, so I just wanted to share these stories.
Campmates / Eazycamp – Optimism regarding Summer Bookings
One of my regular clients is Campmates/Eazycamp who offer camping holidays in the New Forest. Campmates is aimed at single parents, whilst Eazycamp is for traditional camping holidays for couples, families and groups and camping is available for 60 nights a year from May half term to the end of school holidays.
This would normally be a time to secure seasonal staff for both campsites, but are unable to hold face-to-face interviews and offer start dates due to the uncertainty, but remain optimistic about honouring customer bookings for the summer and getting back to normal.
The business owners are continuing to put plans in place to ensure the summer bookings can go ahead, as long as Government advice allows this. www.campmates.co.uk
Independent Mortgage Solutions – Financial Industry Challenges
The team at Independent Mortgage Solutions are continuing to offer support and assistance for their customers during this difficult period. The mortgage lending industry now faces many challenges as most lenders are reducing the maximum loan to value they are willing to lend, with some now capping lending at a maximum of 60% of the value of the property. In recent days lenders have even increased rates for new business customers.
This is a difficult time both for mortgage advisors and their customers who are trying to complete mortgage deals, arrange new mortgages or see if they can get mortgage payment holidays to help manage finances at this time, especially for many who are self-employed and are no longer able to work. www.ims-uk.net/
Petworth Festival – Summer Festival Postponed
Events for their Summer Festival have been postponed/cancelled in accordance with Government guidelines. However, Petworth Festival will be presenting a sequence of highlights from their planned Summer Festival in a special week of music and performance that will precede their 10th Anniversary Literary Week. Events are planned from 16 October – 1 November.
The Festival has been overwhelmed by the support they have received from friends and supporters, but still face many challenges to overcome the situation which has arisen as a result of Covid-19. www.petworthfestival.org.uk
Economy Hire – Safe Working Methods
Economy Hire Ltd provide van hire services from their depot in Ringwood and specialise in custom fitting Jetter vans for use in drainage industry. The depot has temporarily closed but the management team are looking at the options to safely provide van hire for the public and local businesses.
Their main concern is the ability to clean and sanitise each van prior to being made available for hire. The health and safety of customers and staff is paramount and the team at Economy Hire are looking at the practicalities of continuing to provide van hire that complies to the Government guidelines. www.economyhire.co.uk
Embracing working from Home
Much to my surprise even Barney is embracing the working from home culture and is transfixed sat at the monitor all day long.
